Historically, as a Guide, you've focused more on the technical aspects of the protocol rather than the governance side. To me the lines get a bit blurry regarding what work you are doing for Factom Inc in your role as Chief Scientist, and what you are doing specifically as a Guide. I am acutely aware of how much time you have put into the protocol and the sacrifices you make for it regularly and I truly appreciate your dedication. Your in-depth and specialized knowledge of the codebase and protocol is invaluable to the community. Will you break down what category of tasks you will be performing specifically in your Guide role should you be re-elected and provide an estimate of the minimum amount of time you'll be able to dedicate each week to the position? Thanks!
Thank you for your question. You are correct that the lines between my role as Chief Scientist and as a Guide can become blurred. By being in the unique position of having intimate knowledge of the protocol I am best suited to allow this blurred line to help me act as a liaison between the community and the company. I have dedicated several hours per week in my schedule towards my duties as a Guide. My colleagues have been incredibly supportive of my need to preserve time for the community. I view my duties as a Guide as including the following: providing a channel of two-way communication so that community feedback reaches the right ears within the company, providing on call support for scheduled updates and emergencies, and perhaps most importantly supporting other Guides with their efforts to evolve the Factom network in a positive direction. As the demand load continues to increase I know that with the support of Matt and Sam we can continue moving the network governance forward.
